Help Creating A Custom Hud

Postby yvrchris » Mon Dec 28, 2009 5:24 am

Hi there. Thanks to the happy advent of PT for Mac, I am switching from HEM to PT. I would like to keep my same HUD, but it's not real simple and will require creating some custom stats and whatnot. I have neither the aptitude nor the desire to do this particular job, so wondering if there is somebody out there who I can hire to do it for me? Ideally somebody who has HEM too, so I can just send you my HEM hud, but I'm sure it could work for me just to write out what I need in the PT hud.

If that's you, or if you know where I can find someone who does this, please let me know. Thanks!

If you'd be willing to elaborate here, I'd be happy to help you learn what you need to get the job done.

Thank you! I might hit you up for that, but I haven't given up finding someone I can just pay to do it. Honestly I make all this stuff so much harder than it has to be, it's best just to employ somebody. But if I have to, I'll slog through it :)

Quick question for now. If somebody designs a HUD on their PC, can I import it onto my Mac, or do I need it to be designed on a Mac?

Our .pt3hud files are cross platform; if you export the HUD from a PC you can import it on a Mac just fine (and vice versa).

Cool, that surprises me actually! Do the custom stats work the same as well (can I just copy them over from PC)?

Yes, the custom stats work too.
The new backup/restore mechanism in Beta 30.1 makes copying all this sort of stuff across really easy.

You can also export/import individual stats, layouts, etc. and copy them between computers that way.
Stats, reports and layouts from the Repository should also work fine on either type of operating system.

Thanks for the help guys. I've almost got my HUD the way I want it, I think. Except I can't get it to show up on the table! I click the PT icon, click change profile, my new profile is listed. I select it, but nothing happens. Any ideas?

What kind of "nothing happens"?
Does the HUD disappear and not show again, or does it not even disappear?
If it disappears, does the PT-icon re-appear? If you mouse-over the PT-icon what profile name does it say?

I just checked and it does say the profile name of the HUD I want. Which is weird. I checked my HUD config for anything obvious I'm missing, and it all looks correct to me there. Yet it shows up on the table as only this:

Name/HDS
VP/PR/AFq

My actual HUD is six lines of five or six stats per line. I'm very confused!

Did you set the group that you want displayed on the table to be displayed on the table in your HUD? See this post for more on HUD groups.
