Reindexing a 150GB Database

Postby winbotter » Mon Oct 19, 2015 6:06 pm

Long time user, first time poster on this account.

I messed with the currency and PT4 crashed mid currency change. Now my 150GB database is importing at 6h/s, loads the HUD slow, etc.

Will a reindex fix this? How about a cluster?

How long will a reindex take on a 150GB database? How long will a cluster take? Just looking for ball park here, all PS hands.

UPDATE:

Just to clarify, the size of the database was not the problem before. The 150GB database worked fast in all respects. It was the fact I messed it up by changing currencies and it crashing. Now it uses 99% Disk usage constantly. Also, I am using PokerTracker v4.14.6

~2 hours to reindex. Database dropped to 123GB as well for anyone that cares.

HUD takes 2min to load still..... I'm wondering if this has to do with something other than me messing up my database, like the PS update today. Regardless, I am going to keep this housekeeping train rolling and cluster the f*ck out of this database. Will report back with the time it take to cluster a 123GB database with my specs.

This seems like the exact issue I have except the guy never rebuild the cache fully. I'm going to Rebuild my Cache instead of clustering my database.

If any mod has any other suggestions like still clustering after the rebuild please tell me. Also, how long will rebuilding a 123GB database take? And how long will a cluster take?

I will report back.

Thanks.

I think you will need to rebuild the cache since that was likely broken if the currency conversion didn't complete. I can't say how long it will take, but it will be a considerable time for a database of that size.

It took 20 hours. Still not as fast as before, but the HUD loads instantly at least.

It still doesn't Stop Getting Hands instantly though? Do you know why?

Do you play cash or tournaments?
PT4 has a little work to do when you stop the import, but this is more relevant for tournaments as tournament detection can take some time when the import stops.

Cash.

The cluster took 8 hours and the database is now 64GB. Seems to Stop Getting Hands faster now.

We do some cleanup work when you stop getting hands so I'm not surprised it takes a little bit -- thankfully by then your session is over so waiting a minute isn't that big a deal :)

It's difficult to estimate; you can get a rough idea by looking at the time it took for a 150gb database earlier in this thread, but there are a lot of variables that affect the time. Ideally, I would plan to do it overnight so it does not affect your playing schedule.
