Unable to connect to postgres on Linux

Postby Josiah » Thu Sep 01, 2016 8:19 pm

Configuration:

Debian 8.1 (jessie) host with Postgresql 9.4
VMware 12.1.1 with Windows 7 guest with PokerTracker 4.4.18

From the Windows guest I am able to connect and navigate the database using PgAdmin III (v 1.22.1)

When I try with PokerTracker I get "Unable to connect to this database. Please check the configuration"

The config is Server: 10.10.1.25, port: 5432, Database user: postgres, Password: postgres. These are identical to the values used in PgAdmin III.

The PokerTracker database is PT4-1.

When I continue I get the "Select Default Database" window. There I select "New" and click "Browse Databases", that returns "This server is not responding to connection attempts. Please restart the PostgreSQL service, then PokerTracker and try again."

I do that, same results.

This is a new setup. Before I was on OpenSuse 13.2 running Postgresql 9.3 and an older version of PokerTracker (4.x.x - don't recall exactly). I have not played poker in several months and am just getting back into it.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks
Josiah

I have solved this via a kludge: I changed the authentication method to "trust" for the IP of the Windows 7 VM. I will research further why "md5" is not working properly.

That's odd but trusting your VM's IP should be fine.
