But I think I had a breakthrough last night.

You have a Quad-core "Its a Core i7 with 7200 RPM HDD and 6 GB Ram", and you also upgraded to Postgres 9.0 for 64 bit machines.

I wasn't aware that there was Postgres for 64 bit machines, PT4 support suggested that it might solve some problems for my AMD laptop.

Any advice for upgrading Postgres to 9.0?

Yes, but my performance-problems weren't CPU-related. What kind of CPU is your laptop provided with? My guess is that it makes a huge difference what kind of dualcore cpu you have. While a Pentium D also has two cores its performance compared with say a core2duo might be very poor with PT4.

As for the Postgres 9.0 installation I think u should remove Postgres 8.4 completely before

That's why I am asking PT4 what the min CPU requirements are.

Decided to test out my system and fired up HM2 and did an import on my processsed hands of about 500k.

Took only 3 hours to import versus 16 PT4.

What I was watching was the widgets on my cpu and ram status.

HM2 responded the way I expected PT4 too, CPU was between 60-90 % and Ram peaked about 5.4 GB.

PT4 usually stays around 2.2 GB of ram (4 or 8GB still the same), and the CPU are almost always at %100.

I was wrong when I mentioned that it was the CPU since PT4 does not use any Ram over 2.5 GB.

Does this make sense?

Anyway, I created another PT4 database, left the CPU on overnight and it is importing and converting over the new HM2 DB, so I can see what happens and compare the two databases.
