PT4 Fatal error message

Postby Quagmire172 » Tue Sep 10, 2024 2:16 pm

Hi

I have been having trouble logging into PT4 after I made some space on my SSD and unsure I deleted something I should not have.

I could not get postgres 9 to start. So I uninstalled and installed postgres 10.

However I am now getting the following error when trying to create a new database (file attached)

Any ideas how to resolve?

This is a PostgreSQL restriction on the number of columns in a table so you will need to restrict the number of custom columns which are cached to less than 1,600. Each custom column has a 'Cache' checkbox - you can turn this off to prevent a column from being cached, and you will need to reduce the number of cached columns to less than 1,600 however if you are using custom content which is protected and cannot be viewed/edited in PokerTracker 4 then to get below 1,600 columns you will need to contact one or more of your premium providers and have some content disabled so that PokerTracker 4 doesn't load it or open a Support Ticket listing the specific content you want disabled. Once you are below 1,600 custom columns you should be able to create a new database. You can also remove the check mark from the PokerTracker 4 option 'Configure -> Options -> Download Premium Content' then close/restart PokerTracker 4 but this will disable all premium content. If you do not know how many custom columns you currently have click your Windows Start button then type the following:

pgadmin

and click on it when it appears. Double click on "PostgreSQL x" (where x is your PostgreSQL version) and if your prompted for a password the default is "dbpass" (without the quotes). Next double click on "Databases -> YOUR_DATABASE_NAME -> Schemas -> Public -> Tables -> cash_custom_cache (and/or tourney custom cache for tournaments) and the number in brackets is the number of custom columns.

If you haven't been able to create a new database after installing PostgreSQL v10 then there wouldn't be a database to view. You have the option of reinstalling PostgreSQL v9.x and we can troubleshoot with your original data or you can start again with an empty database in a different PostgreSQL version although I would recommend PostgreSQL v16 for that since PostgreSQL v10 reached its end-of-life in 2022. To create a new database you need to turn off 'Configure -> Options -> Download Premium Content' but if you can't start PokerTracker 4 because you can't create a new database you will need to turn that option off manually by opening the PokerTracker.cfg file using Notepad:

C:\Users\{Windows Login}\AppData\Local\PokerTracker 4\Config\PokerTracker.cfg (if you do not see the AppData folder in Windows File Explorer then please refer to this guide.)

and under the [General] heading by editing the DownloadPremiums=Y from Y to N (or adding the line if it doesn't exist) :

Code: Select all
[General]
DownloadPremiums=N

I have gone back to postgresql 9 to see if I can recover database. However postgresql 9 will not start (as soon as manual start it stops). I have attached the logs for the issue.

The day it stopped 09/09 I had run a disk clean up.

A technician will be following up with you via your support ticket.
