There is a tutorial with the title: 2 installs of pt3, 1 database, no networking!

I plan on buying PT3 when it supports Omaha. Until then I will use PT2. My question is, does the information contained in the above referenced tutorial work well with PT2, or is it only for PT3 ??

It should be the same, the point is to get one computer to act as the server and the other computer to be able to reference it. This is all PostgreSQL related so if it can work for PT3, it should work for PT2. I don't support this type of setup though so I won't be able to help with any issues, maybe someone on the PT3 forum would be of help if you need it.

I have attempted to do this. I successfully uninstalled postgres and backed up my databases. Then I installed PostgresSQL8.3.6, although it did not prompt me to install Stackbuilder.

Now, I need to get pokertracker2 Holdem, Omaha, and Stud working with my external hard drive. I need to configure these to work with the postgres that is installed on my external hard drive, and i need to restore the database files onto the external hard drive. Prajna's tutorial explains how to do this with pokertracker 3, but not with pokertracker 2.

You need to install the StackBuilder on each computer so that the ODBC entries are there. In the 8.3 install there are options on the first window where you can select that you just want to install the StackBuilder program, you need to do this on any computer that will be trying to access this server.

Once you get that done, you'll have to use the Utilities > PostgreSQL Settings window in PTH/O/S to tell it what the server is.

I have opened PostgreSQL settings, which now says the server is: localhost.

I have tried to put in the name of my external drive, which is PokerDrive (P:), but no matter how I put this in as the server, it does not work. So I do not know how to use the Utilities > PostgreSQL Settings window to tell it what the server is.

I don't know what it is either, like I said, I don't support this kind of setup. Maybe someone on the PT3 forum can help you figure out what to use.

I have totally abandoned trying to get PT2 to work on my external drive. I have deleted everything from the external drive and have reinstalled postgres (on the internal drive). But restore does not work, and I get error messages that the databases for PT2 Holdem, Omaha, and Stud do not exist.

I am now using Postgres 8.3.6 instead of 8.2.

I need help getting PT2 to work in the same manner as it did before this all began.

They don't exist because you deleted them. You should still be able to go to the Utilities > PostgreSQL Database Functions window in PT after you get these errors about the databases not existing to restore from the .backup files of your databases that you said you made before starting all of this. Are you not able to do this? Be specific about what exactly you are doing including any error messages.

I attempted to follow this tutorial to use postgres and PT2 on an exteranl hard drive and was unsuccessful. I have reinstalled postgres on my desktop. (first 8.3.6 and then uninstalled and installed 8.2 because I read somewhere you said you can just install 8.3. I think I may have been using 8.0 but am so confused now that i'm not sure, but it doesn't appear to be available for windows.)

I can't get PT2 to connect to postgres now nor restore my db. Any suggestions. :oops:

I need some more details, you haven't said what the problem is. What errors are you getting??? Please be specific.
