Icon display

Postby Fatness7755 » Mon Mar 31, 2008 2:53 am

When my hands auto import as I play; is the icon that my opponent given reflective of just the hands played this session, or a combination of the current hands plus all the hands in the current database, or a combination of all hands in all databases plus the current hands ?????

Is the icon that Poker Ace Hud displays atop my PokerStars layout taken from the combination of the 2 databases I select in Hud preferences or does Poker Ace Hud just copy the icon THAT THE ONE database creates as it imports hands from the current session ??? Often the statistics that are displayed DON'T come close to matching the icon...I will have a Showdown Muppet icon on an opponent that is obviously an Eagle...very frustrating on which info (the statistics or the icon) is the more acurate????

My newer database in POKERTRACKER will often have an incorrect icon for players !!!! The old database has the more accurate icon because it has a far greater amount of hands with each opponent:

Which icon does Hud grab ???? Does it combine all those hands from both databases and make a new icon and display it ????

How does all of this affect the "advanced Export" I use ???? Is the notation that the advanced export SENDS TO POKERSTARS the most accurate since it definitely uses a combination of both databases??

Each database has its own icon dependent upon the players stats in that database.

PokerAce Hud grabs the icon from the first database that it encounters according to how they are listed in PokerTracker under File->Maintain Database Names. You can rearrange the order of your databases by removing/adding them.

I'm not sure what you mean by advanced export and what is sent to PokerStars?

When you click on the "Import/Export Notes " icon in Pokertracker a window appears and at the bottom on the right there is a button called "advance Export" which does alot of the work for you as far as note taking is concerned.... When you use this feature I know it combines the stats from the Multiple databases within pokertracker and determines which icon description to assign each player ... If the icon that the HUD assigns on my overlay stats is not a combination of multiple databases, than I can only assume that the icon description that POKERTRACKER assigns and exports to the "Notes" File in pokerstars will NOT coincide with the icon that HUD displays on my overlaty stats ???? If HUD only uses ONE database to select its icon and an opponent has multiple hands in 2 or more databases than i would assume that the "icon description" sent to the pokerstars"notes" file will be more accurate than the Icon that Hud displays on the overlay ???

Are the STATS (W$SD,WtSd%.Etc.) on the overlay more accurate ( because thay are a combibnation of databases) than the ICON because the icon is only reflective of ONE database ??????

Let me explain why PokerAce Hud is only able to display the icon from one database. The auto-rate feature is an extremely database and cpu intensive task. PokerAce Hud would need to recalculate each players icon every X hands which would essentially eat your entire CPU and cause major lag, etc. PokerTracker is able to export the combined Icon because it is a one time task (every time you manually export).

It is difficult to say which icon would be more accurate. The PT2 exported icon would be outdated and not include the most recent hands (depending on when you last exported) and the PAH icon would only display from the one database. How do you determine which is more accurate? Quite frankly, I'm not sure that you can. The most reliable solution is to not rely on auto-rate icons and to instead use the real-time stats. Auto-rate icons are nice for a quick glimpse of a player to determine they broad playing style; however, after a little while you will be able to quickly glance at the stats and determine the say thing.

I hope that helps...

So I guess when this functionality is fully implemented in PT[b867]3[/b867] it will work in a similar way? i.e. the icon displayed will just be from the last time we rated or ran auto-rate (or however we set up the icons) rather than recalculated 'live'?
Or do you now have a better/quicker method so that the icons can be kept up to date based on certain rules we define?

To be honest, I am not sure. We have not yet begun working on the auto-rate functionality in PT3. This will be something that we keep in mind when auto-rate development begins.

Very helpful...thank you...I usually refer to the stats, but when you get up to 7 and 8 tables it gets a little crazy sometimes with my LAG style....I suppose if i have 300 to 400 hands and i have run the aut0 export recently , I will trust the auto rate and if it is a recent player with only a few hands i will look to the icon.... When in doubt i will find the time to review the specific statistics.... Thanks again... good luck with P3...I will be buying when it is ready...
