POKERACE HUD IS SLOWING MY COMP DOWN??

Postby Truck T » Tue Jul 07, 2009 11:13 am

Hi guys for a month or so now my computer has been really slow while i play poker and also the poker itself...

Basically what happens it can be ok for long period then just freezes all my screens for anything from 30secs to 5mins. Which is a bit of a pain when your deep in 8 sngs..

My friend who is a computer expert had a look and couldnt see any problem with the internet connection or the computer (all virus stuff on etc)..

So i noticed that it was the HUD at the end of hands that took ages to load up and the boxes in my bottom toolbar would be static until each of them flashed then i coud play again obv from sitting out. What should i do? i cant play without HUD but its costing me money at the minute.

I found out it must be pa hud as i turned it off for a full hour and the computer was as fast as ever. I recently downloaded the new patch for HUD 1.19.10.01 could this have something to do with it? any ideas at all guys? im dying here : - (

Thanks

Do you use the cache in PAH? If not, you should try it, this will speed things up a lot, especially if you have a lot of, or very large, databases.
Options -> Preferences -> Databases.
Please note when you first build the cache it can take a long time, so run it overnight or something.
(If you are using postgres 8.3 databases, the cache won't work.)

Compacting your databases in PT2 will probably help too, as well as defragmenting your hard disk regularly.

thanks mate.

I have defragged my hardrive and also compressed the files and so far after a few hours its been working a treat. So touch wood its all systems go.

However, the only thing i could do is use a cache on HUD... could that be something to do postgres 8.3 issue you mentioned maybe? but i dont know where to check for that...

ill keep you posted but thanks a lot once again for helping, you fellas do a great job on here!!

The easiest way to check which version of postgres you're using is to look at the Start Menu > Programs > Postgres 8.x (what is x?).

If you have 8.3 the cache won't work.

Dam it.... It's doing it again.... : - ((

Yes i do have 8.3 mate so cant creat cache sadly... It is poker HUD thats causeing the freeze, cause ive had it off all morning and not one problem...

I have done what you said but no idea what to do next? Sometimes it runs for a few hours perfect, then all of a sudden, the computer starts to make a noise like a space shuttle setting off and a button at the button of the laptop either flashes on and off.. Or stays on constantley? which is usually the time the computer freezes. I have installed all anti virus software etc... and i thought maybe it is to do with the memory but surely if it was this it would never work and freeze all the time not up and down?

any more ideas, also i was thinking is it my laptop? but then again it works perfectly without PA HUD running? never had as much trouble just the odd time, but since ive downloaded the new patch its killed me...

no idea what do to next : - (

It sounds like it might be a hard drive problem. Try running chkdisk and defragging your hard drive and see if that helps.
